Review: Squidly Co. Faepod Fantasy Butt Plug

Squidly Co.’s Faepod is the toy that made me rethink butt plugs. I’ve always been picky about anal play, with few dildos that work for me and even fewer plugs (often too big, too small, or too uncomfortable). I don’t often go out of my way to get a toy for anal use, but I gave the Faepod a shot, and I’m so glad I did.

Design & Specs

Squidly Co. is a small trans-owned business in Seattle with beautiful crystalline toys and values rooted in community support. Their lineup includes affirming products like packers and mini penetrables, and they offer free and discounted packers and sensory aids funded by donations and a percentage of regular sales. They also partner with non-profits. Their toys can be purchased from their website or select retailers.

I’ve worked with Squidly Co. as a designer, having designed and sculpted their Falkor Micro Stroker and Mr Peacock Packer. When they sent my copies of those products, they tossed in a few extra items, including a Faepod. While I don’t have an obligation to review Faepod, I love it so much that I have to share it.

Faepod has a rounded, teardrop-shaped bulb with petals or leaves on the outside like a flower bud. The T-base is designed to prevent it from being sucked inside and is thick enough to prevent bending. The model was designed by Elise of Squidly Co.

In medium size, my Faepod has about 3.5″ usable length with a bulb that’s 1.9″ diameter (5.9″ circumference). The stem is about 0.7″ long and 0.8″ diameter (2.5″ circumference). and the plug is just under 3″ long. The base is 3.7″ long.

In medium firmness 00-50, it’s sturdy while retaining some level of squish. (Squidly Co. uses Near Clear for their medium firmness, which is clearer than many other shops’ 00-50.) In hand, it feels a little firmer than other toys I have in 00-50, closer to 00-60.

Mine is a swirl of what I think is Navy Blue and Green Pearl, making a color combo that’s reminiscent of a peacock. The shimmer is spectacular, with a pearlescent sheen over semi-translucent silicone. Squidly Co. makes a lot of toys that showcase translucence, so it showcases their style very well.

Medium Faepods are $36-$39 individually, or can be purchased as part of a 3-size set which goes for $77-$83. Squidly Co. offers free domestic US shipping for orders over $60 and occasionally runs sales. Each toy selection comes with the option of a logo squishy or tiny toy squishy (I love my logo squishy… I need 50) and toys come with bags (satin for items up to 6″ long, cotton for items up to 8″ long, display bags for longer toys).

In Use (Anal)

Medium Faepod is bigger than my comfort zone for anal. I max out around 2″ diameter, so 1.9″ offers a stretch. While I can manage it with minimal prep and lots of lube, it’s best to do a bit of prep, whether that’s with a smaller toy or just my fingers.

The pointed tip works very well for insertion. It’s easy to position it as needed and start pressing it inside, so the most difficult part of insertion ends up being the girth of the most rounded part. If I’m not warmed up enough, I’ll know by the stretch, and I can pull it back out and work on warming up further.

A top-down view of Faepod.

I’m very sensitive to texture for anal use. Between the firmness and the semi-pointed shapes, Faepod’s texture is not that comfortable when inserting, but it’s smooth enough that it isn’t painful. I don’t notice the texture once it’s inside. The smoothness of the finish and lack of texture on the stem both keep it from being overwhelming.

I absolutely love the stretch once it’s inside. The stretch at my entrance as it’s going in isn’t my favorite, but just inside my entrance, it’s amazing. It’s more filling than a knot, I think because the slim stem makes the stretch so much more significant and keeps it inside easily.

The firmness means I never lose the presence: I feel the pressure internally and it has a pretty strong presence, so I’m never going to forget that it’s there. The firmness makes it slightly uncomfortable for the first 30-60 seconds after it’s inserted, but once my body adjusts, it works really well for me.

It’s comfortable to wear while walking around or playing externally. It doesn’t shift and doesn’t risk coming out. The base feels like it’s barely there.

Removal is a little difficult because of how it stretches my entrance. I need to relax, use the T-base to help pull it out, and sometimes add extra lube. The difficulty comes from the roundness and girth, so that is not unique to this plug.

In Use (Vaginal)

I don’t typically use my Faepod vaginally because it’s smaller than I prefer. Some smaller plugs have a shape that makes up for the size, but in this case, I’d need a larger one for it to fit my preferences.

The petals are prickly on insertion, but I only really feel them at my entrance. Once inside, I hardly feel the texture when not moving it.

It sits inside deep enough to bend the edges of the base. The T-base naturally angles itself so that one side points toward my clit and the other towards my butt. This makes it slightly inconvenient to masturbate clitorally, but not enough to be uncomfortable.

I don’t feel its presence as well as I do anally due to the size and lack of movement, but as I clench down, I can feel pressure against my G-spot.

It’s decent for vaginal use and I think would work pretty well in a larger size that fits my preferences better.

Overall

Squidly Co.’s Faepod is a beautiful plug that changed my perspective on butt plugs. It’s the first one that worked well for me and has the right shape and size to be filling, comfortable, and easy to use. It takes a bit of work to use given the size, and the texture doesn’t quite work for me, but the shape and size work very well for me.

Faepod comes in three sizes and a ton of gorgeous color options, and it’s pretty affordable as far as customizable indie toys go. I highly recommend it for anyone who wants a filling and comfortable butt plug.
