Review: Uberrime Nocturna Vampire Dildo

Uberrime’s Nocturna Vampire is a gentle introduction to fantasy dildos, keeping a familiar human shape with enough flair to make it exciting. Available in a size that’s smaller than most fantasy dildos, it’s a solid choice for those new to dildos in the first place.

Design & Specs

Uberrime is a long-standing indie sex toy shop with a large catalog of silicone toys from realistic and fantasy dildos to v-plugs and grinders. Their stellar designs bridge a gap between mainstream tastes and fantasy designs, carrying something for everyone no matter what their sex toy background is, with sizes ranging from accommodatingly petite to monstrously large.

The Nocturna Vampire dildo, sculpted by Kat (ExcelDDesigns), is part of Uberrime’s Phantasia line, intended as an introduction to the category of fantasy dildos. These dildos are less exotic and less intimidating than some of the wilder fantasy dildos out there, sticking to more common shapes and lower detail while keeping a fantastical flair. I’ve already reviewed the Draconis Dragon dildo from the same line, which I can easily recommend.

Nocturna has a slender shaft with a moderate curve. It has a classic human shape topped with a slim head that has a rounded coronal ridge. The sides have gentle texture reminiscent of bat wings.

My Nocturna is one from Uberrime’s sample photos for the small size. The tip is Color Shift Blue (a vibrant shimmery blue that looks like it has a purple edges at some angles and in the sunlight, which seems impossible for my camera to capture), but I’m not entirely certain which pigment is the second, darker color that it fades into. The semi-shiny satin finish makes the toy smooth and shiny enough to show off the color.

While some fantasy dildos labeled as small easily exceed the size of an average human penis—every brand sizes differently, which is part of why I always tell people to check the specs regardless of size name—Uberrime’s smalls are very approachable for most. Small Nocturna has a usable length of 5.5″. The very tip is 1″ across (3″ circumference), the coronal ridge is 1.2″ across (3.75″ circumference), and the shaft thickens from 1.1″ (3.5″ circumference) beneath the head to 1.35″ diameter (4.4″ circumference) just above the base.

In soft firmness 00-50, it’s pretty squishy and bendy. While most of my toys in firmness 00-50 are not what I’d call super flexible, Nocturna’s slimness makes it feel squishier and bendier in hand.

Small Nocturna starts at $64. With two colors, the price for a custom Nocturna would be $76. It is sometimes available as a ready-made toy (which can include a small discount) and it is available in some grab bags when they are available (which have a considerable discount).

Nocturna was sent to me as part of my affiliate partnership with Uberrime and I did not have any obligation to review it. Since I have it anyway and since I’m already spending time with vampires, I figured I’d share my thoughts.

It arrived alongside the Draconis Dragon dildo that I recently reviewed.

In Use (Anal)

Nocturna’s smooth finish, moderately hard firmness, and slender size make it very easy to insert. I’m very sensitive when using dildos anally and I don’t do it often, but I can handle Nocturna with zero warm-up, making it easier than some of my other small dildos. (I don’t recommend not warming up at all, but sometimes I want to get right to it.)

It’s surprisingly easy to ride even when I’m tight. The base isn’t large enough to keep it 100% in place, but I don’t have to stabilize it to keep it from moving around a whole lot. I suspect the smoothness of the shaft supports this since there’s not a lot of texture to catch inside of me.

It feels somewhat hard due to the firmness and my own sensitivity, but not uncomfortable. Given how slim it is, I don’t think I’d want to go softer since that would make it even more flexible and could make it difficult to insert; however, I sometimes prefer softer for anal use.

The gentle curve suits my taste. Strong curves aren’t for me when it comes to anal play.

The wing texture feels like two waves on either side, reaching gentle peaks that feel similar to smooth, sloped bumps. It’s intense enough that I can easily identify the exact shape in use as it glides in and out. The ridge of the head is also notable considering how it juts out. Since all of the texture is smooth, it’s all pretty comfortable for me.

While I don’t dislike the wing texture, it’s not my favorite. I think I’d prefer a ribbed texture a little more.

It’s easy to ride or thrust. While the base is small, it’s easy to hold. I find it easy to use Nocturna with only a little bit of a thick lube, so the base doesn’t get too lubey to hold.

In Use (Vaginal)

Nocturna’s much smaller than my usual preference for medium size dildos. Without a strong shape or strong texture to make up for the lack of girth, dildos this small don’t tend to satisfy me. I knew before I received it that small Nocturna would only be part of my anal lineup.

It’s easy to insert even if I’m not warmed up and not aroused, but I still need lube (which I’d recommend with all silicone toys). Thanks to the firmness, I can feel its presence even when fully warmed up, even though it doesn’t do a good job of pressing against any spots that I like.

I don’t notice the head at all. I do notice the texture along the sides. I need to angle it such that the texture presses against my walls (instead of just sliding in and out without pressing against any nice areas), which involves more distinct motion than I usually do. It’s not bad! The texture makes for some nice friction. But once I’m warmed up, even getting the fun angles does very little for me.

I suspect I’d enjoy large Nocturna’s size, shape, and texture, but the head seems too smooth for me to get what I love from heads even in a more suitable size. Small Nocturna is simply too small for me to enjoy very much in this manner.

Overall

Nocturna from Uberrime offers a gentle ride that works out well for me when it comes to anal play, making for easy warm-up or a low-intensity session. It’s well designed to be a beginner dildo with a very approachable size and shape.

The whole Phantasia line is designed for beginners or those new to fantasy toys. Personally, small Nocturna would have been a good fit for my introduction to anal play. However, for vaginal play, my tastes have never been that slim; Uberrime’s large Draconis would have been a much better starting point for me.
