Sometimes the dildos that work best are the ones that you least expect. The Changeling is, in my opinion, a very underrated dildo. The shape is surprisingly effective for G-spot stimulation, and in a challenging size, it’s perfect for stretching.
Design & Specs
Fantasy Grove features characters from a mythical grove, with products ranging from high-detail fantastical designs to beginner-friendly, harness-compatible models. They excel in creating unique colorations, crafting masterpieces with difficult techniques that take a lot of skill. I’ve already reviewed their popular harness-friendly Daybreak dildo and their pierced Jackalope dildo, both of which I quite like.
Changeling has a caterpillar-inspired shaft with nubs, thick girth, and a curve, and butterfly wings for the base. It is represented on Fantasy Grove’s site by a shapeshifting fae whose favorite forms are inspired by the wildlife in the grove, including flowers and moths.

In size large, my Changeling is an absolute unit. The lower shaft is as thick as my fist and the base is huge. It has a usable length of just over 6″ and a girth that goes from 2.2″ diameter (6.5″ circumference) at the head to 3.1″ diameter (9.8″ circumference) at the base. (If you exclude the two lowermost bumps, it’s a max of 5.2″ usable length and 2.8″ diameter (9″ circumference)). The base is 7.5″ across and 4.2″ from front to back.
The base makes it very stable for riding, and the expansion from a girth that’s comfortable for me to a girth outside my limits makes it great for stretching warm-up or practice.
The base of mine is sparkly off-white and the shaft is an ocean-inspired mix of blue, green, white, and unpigmented silicone—like ocean waves lapping against a sandy beach. It’s from a set of toys inspired by pink sand beaches.

My Changeling has purple edges on the base and some of the translucent silicone is tinted purple, but it originally was not purple at all. My current theory is that it’s a reaction between parts of the silicone and the dye from the black satin storage bag I keep it in. I’ve never seen color transfer from any of my other bags, including others of the exact same bag and other dyed fabrics, and this is not impacting the blue, green, or white in the shaft… While the effect is gorgeous and makes it look more magical, I would suggest being cautious about storing toys in dyed bags and/or ensuring that bags are thoroughly washed before use to reduce the risk of dye bleed.

Mine was obtained secondhand*, so I don’t have the original listing details. I believe mine has a split firmness of a Near Clear** shaft and medium firmness 00-50 base. The shaft feels very similar to my other toys in medium firmness 00-50, but it has very high clarity in the translucent silicone, giving the colors a lot more depth when viewed close-up. In this firmness, the head and base have a moderate amount of squish, while the bulk of the shaft feels a little firmer due to the girth.
Large Changelings start at $140. Near Clear comes with an upcharge, so I would estimate a similar dildo to mine would cost around $165 from inventory. Fantasy Grove does not currently offer split marbles or Near Clear for made-to-order listings, so something like this would be an inventory-only item.
* Platinum cure silicone can be sanitized at home, so there is a secondhand market for fantasy sex toys. I have purchased a number of toys myself from trusted community members.
** Near Clear silicones are much more translucent than standard soft silicones. NC 00-31 normally feels somewhere between soft 00-30 and medium 00-50, while NC 00-45 can feel firmer than 00-50.
In Use (Vaginal)
My collection is lacking in dildos meant for stretching me out slowly. When I get bigger toys, they tend to jump right to the girth or be more focused on depth play than stretching. Changeling has a pretty significant steady increase across a relatively short length and has a large, sturdy base, so it’s well designed for stretching.
The stretch is perfect for me. I want to take dildos that are a little bigger than my current limits, and I really should warm up rather than jumping straight to the big boys, so I got Changeling specifically for stretching myself out. I can go about two thirds of the way before it becomes a challenge, and with the right positioning, this dildo makes it easy to take just a little bit more than I think I can handle. I don’t feel much of a strain internally (as I do with thick swells and knots), but I do feel it on the band of skin around my entrance. It’s very easy to back off slightly to ease the stretch.
With the smooth outer curve against my front wall, I can sink down further than the other way around. It’s a buttery smooth experience. The prominent lower bumps can irritate my back wall, though, and I’m not entirely keen of the head pressing back against my anal canal from inside, so I don’t do this often.

The mild texture is well positioned to press against my favorite spots. With the texture facing forward against my front wall, I like to rotate it so that one line of texture is aligned with the middle of my front wall, then ride it so the texture presses against my front wall and G-spot. The texture is very smooth and mild, although the bumps closer to the bottom stick out notably and feel more prominent than the texture higher up on the shaft.
Speaking of the G-spot, the curve is perfect for focused G-spot stimulation. Changeling is precise and consistent. It surprised me the first time I tried it and found the head immediately pressed right against my G-spot. If I lean back while riding and only ride the top few inches with the head pressed against my front wall, that makes for a G-spot massage that coaxes me to become wetter. (I’m not quite sure if it makes me squirt, but it’s certainly close to it.)

The heavy base makes Changeling very stable while riding. It’s very easy to ride, going up and down as much distance as I want and as quickly as I want, with the only limit being what my knees can take. I don’t even need to prop it up on top of anything since I don’t aim to insert the final inch, so it has sufficient height for my needs, but some people may prefer to place it atop a towel. If I’m leaning back, though, the base will shift a bit.
Thrusting is easier than I expected and the base is easy to hold. The downsides are that it’s more difficult to get focused G-spot stimulation this way; it’s harder to insert fully, as once I get more than halfway down, I need force to push it further in; and the wide base can interrupt thrusting by catching on the floor/bed/towel.

Overall
Changeling from Fantasy Grove is excellent for focused G-spot stim and stretching practice. The stretch is smooth and gradual, the head consistently presses against the right spot, and the heavy base keeps it steady while riding. It’s an instant fave and a must-have for stretching myself out.
