Review: Foria Awaken Arousal Oil & Juicy Pure Lube

How do you transform playtime into a luxurious experience? Foria Wellness endeavors to do just that with their lube and arousal oil, ramping up the experience of solo or partnered sessions with their high-quality products. But does it pay off, or are they another brand advertising your average everyday lubricants?

About Foria

Foria Wellness aims to improve sex, self-care, and sleep with their organic care and enhancement products. Their lineup includes botanical formulas and CBD products to suit each individual’s needs, along with soothing and hydrating products.

As someone whose toybox is getting pretty full, I’ve been looking into other ways to enhance my fun, like unique lubes and enhancers. I don’t strictly need enhancers—testosterone does its job well—but I love exploring new sensations. It’s why I collect fantasy dildos in the first place. After my experience with a cooling stimulant that was just okay, I had hopes that there would be something better out there.

Foria’s products promise luxury and they’re priced to match, so I started my testing with high expectations. I selected the two products that would best fit my personal play—Awaken Arousal Oil with Organic Botanicals to explore new sensations and Juicy Pure Lube because I always use lube with my sex toys—and crossed my fingers that I would enjoy them as much as I hoped.

Awaken Arousal Oil with Organic Botanicals

Awaken Arousal Oil with Organic Botanicals ($40) (the CBD-free counterpart to Awaken Arousal Oil with CBD ($48)) is a coconut oil-based serum containing warming, cooling, and aphrodisiac ingredients. It promises an increase in sensitivity and orgasm intensity with just a few drops shortly before playtime. Reviews out there indicate that this oil is hit or miss for some people, and that some have more success with the CBD version.

1 fl oz doesn’t seem like a lot, but I would guesstimate it could last for around 25-30 sessions, based on the amount that I’ve used so far.

It’s scented in a way that reminds me of potpourri. Cardamom is the dominant scent, followed by cinnamon. While I don’t find it overpowering or offensive, those who are sensitive to scents or who do not enjoy cardamom may not be keen on this one.

Caveat: If this dries on anything, it smells foul the next day. Clean up any drips, spills, toys, or sex blankets right after playing. I’m guilty of waiting until the next day sometimes, but that doesn’t go over well with this oil. Also, keep a tissue on hand; a little bit of oil gets on the pump cap itself which should be wiped off to keep it clean.

The recommendation is to use 3-5 pumps. A single pump is a fair bit of oil, easily enough to cover my entire t-dick. I started out with just one pump and found the effects to be subtle, so I added a second, then a third. After a number of sessions, I found that what works best for me is to gently rub in 2-3 drops across my clit and foreskin, let it absorb for 15 minutes, then apply another 2-3 drops. The first 2-3 pumps are not that intense, but the intensity kicks in after the second application.

I’ve had a few sessions where I didn’t feel any effect, but I’ve figured out some of the particulars:

  • One pump is a fair amount of oil. Don’t start with the full 5 pumps; let some absorb before applying more.
  • Any lube already on the skin should be dabbed off with a tissue before applying this oil, otherwise the oil will be less effective.
  • Natural wetness may reduce the oil’s effectiveness if present before application.
  • Skin-to-skin contact keeps the warming sensation going.

The initial sensation is minty, which lasts no longer than a few minutes, if it hits at all. Then, the warming sensation washes over it, taking over and masking any remaining mintiness.

The spice reminds me of ginger. It has a zing to it, but it’s well on the side of comfortable. More than that, it’s warm: The surface of my skin feels very warm as it heats up, making me very conscious of the oil’s effects.

If I don’t touch myself, or only briefly touch myself, the warmth lasts for a good 10-15 minutes at a mostly constant intensity. After that, it begins to fade, lessening in intensity overall yet still coming through in waves every couple of minutes. I suspect the ebb and flow of the strength may be in part from the oil on the inside of my labia as it continues to have contact with my clit and hood.

It makes my clit and hood swell as if aroused, even when I’m not. Between the warmth and the way my clit rubs against my labia, I’m constantly aware of the difference from my usual aroused state. The soft, luxurious feeling of oil enhances the change, particularly since I don’t normally use oil-based lube.

The warming sensation makes me aroused quicker because it feels good in itself. Something about it makes me wetter and more prone to squirting (if I’m using a dildo that’s able to make me do that).

Since the oil is fluid, it may get around to spots I don’t directly apply it to, like my entrance. Thankfully, it doesn’t irritate my urethra at all, but I do find that I’m not keen on the warm burn at my entrance.

Whether it’s a result of my own body heating up or the oil transferring, it makes dildos themselves feel warm. It makes dual-density dildos feel more alive. I’m a big fan of that. Since it doesn’t contain any silicone-based ingredients, it’s safe to use with silicone sex toys.

After half an hour, the effects are just about gone… unless I rub myself, which makes the effect last much longer. Often, I’ll play with dildos without external stimulation until I near the end of a session. Using this oil, I can enjoy the effects, let the sensation dissipate, and then the warmth will come back at a low level when I rub myself to completion, lingering for some time after.

The warmth is strongest if I start rubbing myself shortly after application, so play sessions where I focus on my clit result in the strongest warmth.

Does it “intensify orgasmic sensations” as advertised? Not for me. While it makes me aroused more quickly, it doesn’t increase my arousal to any higher level than usual, and I don’t notice an increase in sensitivity. But I’m a big fan of the warming sensation, especially with how long-lasting it is. I’m surprised the product description doesn’t advertise the warming sensation at all. I knew to expect it from the list of ingredients, but wasn’t sure how subtle or strong it would be.

Juicy Pure Lube

Juicy Pure Lube ($20) is one of only two lubes Foria offers, the other being their Sex Oil with CBD. It’s water-based, pH-balanced for vaginal use, and contains aloe. It’s also flavored, which isn’t something that personally appeals to me, but I use water-based lubes all the time, so I wanted to see the quality of Foria’s. Since it has no silicone ingredients, it’s safe to use with silicone toys.

The bottle and appearance don’t impress me, unfortunately. The cap looks like wood, and it looks nice in photos, but it’s plastic and doesn’t look nearly as nice in person. Honestly, I would’ve rather it looked like plastic; fake wood comes across as a cheap aesthetic to me.

The lube itself has a reddish pink tint with slight cloudiness. At first, I was concerned this could be an indication of bacteria, but then I realized that it actually does have this tint and cloudiness in product photos from the brand and customers. (The color makes it weirdly difficult for me to photograph since liquidy shadows make it look more dark and dull. I’ve edited the photos as best I can to show how it actually looks to my eyes.)

It smells like cherry or watermelon Kool-Aid, a flavored scent with sweetener in it. Too saccharine and candy-like to fit the luxurious vibe of the brand. The taste is lightly sweet and fruity, pleasant without being as sweet as it smells.

The lube is moderately liquidy. It doesn’t stick to silicone toys when poured directly onto them, but does stick when rubbed onto them. I wonder if that’s because of the aloe? It’s better than lubes I’ve tried that roll right off the toys, but not as convenient as lubes that cling easily.

For longevity, it’s about average: I don’t need a ton of it, and it needs reapplying every now and then. That meets my general expectations for lube. It works alright for anal, but it’s not thick or plush, so will not cushion as much as a more gel-like lube.

Overall

I adore the Awaken Arousal Oil. It shows care and expertise in its design, with a tingling that transforms from mint to warmth, and that warmth ramps up and lasts a long while. To be honest, I would love to use it during all of my play sessions because I absolutely love the feeling of warmth. If Foria ever comes out with a warming lube, I will definitely give it a shot to see if it’s half as good as this.

The biggest downside is that it takes too much oil to get the effect that I want; I would prefer if it were twice as strong since that amount of oil would be much easier to work with.

I’d like to see Foria update the description of the Awaken Arousal Oil to indicate its warming properties. I knew to expect warmth from the ingredients, but wasn’t sure how it would balance with the cooling peppermint, or whether the warmth would be at the forefront at all. I love warming sensations, so that would’ve been a strong advertising point for me.

As far as the Juicy Pure Lube goes? It fits my standard expectations for lube—lasts a moderate amount of time, not too liquidy—but the scent makes it smell like cheap candy and it doesn’t particularly stand out as luxurious. I have to get my hands messy with it, since it only sticks to toys after being rubbed onto them rather than just drizzled on. It could be a good choice for those seeking a lightly flavored lube, but since I have no need for flavored lubes myself, I’d rather go for an unscented lube.
