Selkie from Twilight Meadow Creations combines merfolk and knots into a dildo that seems to cater directly to my fantasies. How well does the shape work, and is it enough for someone as texture-hungry as I am?
Design & Specs
Twilight Meadow Creations is a queer-owned business producing “body-safe fantasy toys and squishy sculptures in platinum silicone with a fantastical flair, inspired by Scandinavian and Celtic mythology.” This inspiration turns out to cover a range of models, from plant-inspired dildos to terrifyingly detailed skeletal monsters and even a knight’s fist, and TMC makes magic with them through their exceptional pours.
Selkie is a short and stout dildo, with the knot taking up about half the portion of the shaft above the stem. The rounded curves almost make it look cute or elegant, though for me, it ultimately looks hot since it’s a chubby cock coming out from a slit.
The character art on the model page is similarly sexy, featuring a woman with a sealskin lying back on a rocky shore, her knotted cock hard between her legs. This is one of the few indie dildos out there that I know of where the character is a trans woman.
(I kind of have a thing for merfolk that spans both sex toys and erotica. It’s a wonder I didn’t buy a Selkie the minute I found out it existed.)
In small size, Selkie has a maximum girth of 2.1″ diameter/6.9″ circumference, which is right within my comfort zone for a dildo but smaller than I would normally go for a knot. The swell above the knot is 1.7″ diameter/5.5″ circumference. The stem is 0.7″ long on one side and 1.3-1.7″ long on the other (depending on how you measure) with a girth of about 1.6″ diameter/5.2″ circumference.
It’s smooth without any texture, which isn’t normally my go-to, but I’ve had smooth dildos with great shapes work for me before. In medium firmness 00-50, it’s moderately squishy, but holds its shape well. The finish is smooth satin: More matte than glossy, but with a fairly smooth finish.
My Selkie is a gorgeous sunset marble of purple, pink, orange, and yellow. It came with a sticker and a small cotton bag with the logo on it. Selkies are available through inventory restocks (like mine was), surprise customs, and occasionally guided customs.
The current base price for small Selkies is 800 SEK ($72.50 USD). There is a small handling fee on all orders (20 SEK/less than $2 USD). You can get 5% off your order with code: FROST
In Use (Vaginal)
The head and swell on the top of the shaft enter very easily and feel super smooth. My Selkie is firm enough that I don’t lose sensation, so I feel a little bit filled, but it doesn’t have a curve that would press against my favorite spots. The sensation of the smoothness works really well with the finish on this one, since it’s not so glossy to lose lube but not matte enough to feel rough.
I find that spherical/round knots stretch me more uncomfortably than oblong knots of similar circumference. This one’s pretty round but it’s in my comfort zone, so I get that uncomfortable stretch, but only when I’m not fully warmed up. Once warmed up, it goes in pretty easily, and it’s comfortably filling but not a stretch.
Knot-fucking is easy with Selkie in this size. I can pop the knot in and out at a moderate pace. When thrusting at a higher speed, I end up going maybe halfway down the knot, because it takes a little more focused force to push the knot fully inside.
Getting the knot to lock is hit-or-miss. Part of that is due to the small size, but I’ve had plugs slimmer than this that lock inside well, so part is from the design. With the head side upwards, it does not stay inside. Sideways, it kind of stays inside, but not for long. Turned upside down, it can lock inside if I’m sitting on it or if I tighten my muscles, so we’ll consider that a success.
When it’s locked like that, it’s filling, with the firmness ensuring that I never forget it’s there. I like to keep it in place and rub my clit, treating it like a plug; the base does not get in the way of my hands.
The stem is slightly longer along the underside, which makes it easier to take the knot without the base getting in the way. If the stem were half an inch longer all around, I think it would have a much better chance of locking.
The shape of the base is great, letting me grasp either part of it with my fingers or the full base with my hand, but it’s easy to get lube on it when taking the knot, after which point it gets much more difficult to hold any one part of the base. For knotting or treating as a plug, I don’t think I’d mind, but for knot-fucking, it’s inconvenient.
In Use (Anal)
I gave this one a go since it’s on the smaller side and I was really feeling like trying out anal one day.
I’m a lot more sensitive and a lot less experienced with using toys anally, so a smooth dildo is appealing. It stays in place decently well on top of a towel while using my hands elsewhere, so whatever’s going on with the base design to keep it balanced like that, I respect it.
The upper shaft is big for me, but the smoothness makes it very forgiving and is easy to get used to. I love the stretch when pushing down against the top of the knot. The knot itself is too ambitious for me at this point, but I’m pretty sure I can make it work with enough practice. (If I ever do, I’ll come back and update this.) It’s a goal I definitely want to reach, though; this knot is challenging enough to be filling, short enough to remain comfortable, and smooth enough not to irritate my sensitive skin.
Since I can just barely lock the small size vaginally, I don’t want to try an even shorter stem in case it doesn’t lock at all, so I’m not considering the mini size right now.
Overall
Selkie from Twilight Meadow Creations fits my tastes visually and fantasy-wise, with a smooth knot that lends itself to knot-fucking. In small size, the knot is well within my comfort range and is easy to take, but doesn’t lock well at all angles due to the short stem. Selkie fits into my collection as a warm-up toy and gentle plug for vaginal use, and a challenge that I plan to conquer someday for anal use.
I sized down for my Selkie; medium size would be comparable to other challenging knots that I enjoy. For someone looking to have the knot lock in, I would suggest getting the size where the knot girth is close to your maximum, and would caution that the roundness could make it uncomfortable to insert (if your body is picky about that like mine is). For knot-fucking, sizing down works great.
